coventry bayley lane 150x150 Spirits of St Marys Guildhall, CoventryNestled deep in the cobbled streets of Coventry City lies St Mary’s Guildhall, having housed some famous residents over the years it is well known for being haunted.St. Mary’s Guildhall in Coventry, Warwickshire was built in 1340 – 1460 The building which is scheduled as an ancient monument was restored in 1824 and is thought to include parts of a 12th Century Castle within its South Wall.
The guildhall served as the combined headquarters of the united guilds of the Holy Trinity St. Mary, St. John the Baptist and St. Katherine.
Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned at this very building for three months from November 1569 before her transfer to Fotheringay for her execution under the orders of Queen Elizabeth I.
St. Mary’s Guildhall has many majestic rooms to investigate each with a unique history and atmosphere of their own such as the Medieval Great Hall, the Drapers’ Room, Fullers room, Mercers Room, Tanners Suite, Armoury and Under croft.
